Quran player jumped position when toggling English translation

  • Incident
  • minor
  • Resolved

When using the Quran player, turning the English translation audio on or off during playback could move the position forward, sometimes skipping a verse, instead of continuing from the same place. This was limited to the English-translation toggle on verse-by-verse reciters; ordinary Quran playback was unaffected and no audio was ever wrong. The issue has been fixed and verified on the live player.

Timeline

  1. resolved

    03:12 UTC

This incident is resolved. Toggling the English translation now keeps your place: turning it on resumes the same verse, and turning it off continues at the next verse. This was verified on the live player. No data was affected, and exposure was limited to the English-translation toggle on verse-by-verse reciters.

  2. monitoring

    03:05 UTC

A fix has been deployed and the page cache cleared. We are monitoring the result. If you still see the player jump when toggling English, please reload the Quran player page once to pick up the update.

  3. identified

    02:37 UTC

The cause has been identified: a client-side issue in how the player handed off your current position when switching between its Arabic-only and English-translation playback modes. The audio itself was always correct; only the resume position was off. A fix is being prepared.

  4. investigating

    02:30 UTC

We are investigating a report that the Quran player can jump forward, or skip a verse, when the English translation audio is switched on or off during playback. Listening to the Quran without toggling the translation is not affected.
