Prayer Times Performance Upgrade

  • Maintenance
  • minor
  • Completed

Prayer times API calls are now routed through our edge proxy at api.gablvm.org with Cloudflare edge caching. This reduces latency from 1-3 seconds to near-instant on cache hits worldwide. The migration was completed ahead of schedule during Ramadan 2026. Additionally, a timezone bug was identified and fixed where the server used UTC date instead of the user's local date, causing prayer times to show the wrong day's times for users in timezones behind UTC.

Prayer times API migration completed ahead of schedule. All API calls now route through api.gablvm.org with edge caching (7-day TTL for Quran data, 24-hour for prayer times). During testing, a timezone bug was discovered and fixed: the server was using the UTC date to request prayer times, which caused incorrect times for users in timezones behind UTC (e.g., showing tomorrow's CDT times instead of today's CST times in Minnesota). The fix lets the API auto-detect the correct local date from the user's coordinates.
